Probable cause

The pilot’s improper flare during landing that resulted in a hard landing.

NTSB narrative

The pilot reported that he was making a straight-in approach for the turf runway. After clearing powerlines near the approach end of the runway, he lowered the airplane nose to continue a normal glidepath and shifted his focus about halfway down the runway. Unexpectedly, the airplane landed hard and came to an abrupt stop. The airplane was sitting on its nose with the nose landing gear collapsed and the propeller blades bent back. He reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation. The airplane received substantial damage to the right wing.
