Probable cause

The pilot's excessive brake application during the landing roll resulting in a nose over.

NTSB narrative

The pilot of the tailwheel equipped airplane reported that he was attempting to land on an unimproved dirt strip. He encountered a slight tailwind when he crossed the runway threshold and while the airplane was fast he applied excessive braking. Subsequently, the airplane nosed over, which resulted in substantial damage to the forward fuselage and right-wing strut. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
