Probable cause

A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because the airplane was not recovered from the ocean.

NTSB narrative

The pilot reported, while enroute at an altitude of 1,300 ft mean seal level over the water, the engine lost all power. Unable to restart the engine, the pilot ditched the airplane about 2 miles from shore. The airplane remained upright for about 2 minutes before the it sank into the ocean. The airplane was not recovered from the ocean; therefore, the reason for the loss of engine power could not be determined.
